HONOLULU, HI— Cal jumped out to a 21-0 lead, but Hawai’i stormed back and stunned the Golden Bears 35-31 in the 2025 Sheraton Hawai’i Bowl at Clarence T.C. Ching Athletics Complex .
The finish was brutal for Cal. After the Bears grabbed a late 31-28 lead with 1:57 left, Hawai’i answered with a 68-yard game-winning drive , capped by a 22-yard touchdown pass from backup QB Luke Weaver to Nick Cenacle with 10 seconds remaining.
Cal freshman QB Jaron-Keawe Sagapolutele delivered a big night, throwing for a career-high 343 yards and adding the go-ahead 1-yard TD run late in the fourth. But Hawai’i’s offense kept coming, scoring 22 points in the fourth quarter to complete the comeback.
For Hawai’i, Micah Alejado finished 32-of-46 for 274 yards and three TDs , while Pofele Ashlock posted 14 catches for 123 yards and two TDs and was named the bowl’s MVP by the program.
Cal ends the season 7-6 with a third straight bowl loss, while Hawai’i closes 9-4 after one of the biggest home bowl rallies the islands have seen in years.
